2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. 2027 Ford F-150: Which Truck Fits Alamogordo?
Alamogordo drivers want a truck that can handle the heat, the desert and the climb to Cloudcroft and Ruidoso without stretching the budget. Two trucks come up most: the Chevrolet Silverado and the Ford F-150. In Las Cruces, a market Casa Chevrolet also serves, CarEdge's August 2026 rankings show the Silverado 1500 as the top-selling full-size truck, fourth among all new vehicles, with the F-150 well behind. Statewide, the F-150 leads and the Silverado ranks third of the three biggest sellers.
Both trucks are updated for 2027. Chevrolet has fully redesigned the Silverado 1500, and Ford has refreshed the F-150 with a new base engine and hands-free towing. This page compares what each maker has published so far. We don't list prices here. See our inventory and specials for current pricing.
What are Alamogordo truck shoppers looking for?
Start with who lives here. Alamogordo is a city of about 31,000, and the City's own community profile puts its median household income near $42,000. Holloman Air Force Base brings around 11,000 people to the area every day. That points to a value-minded market where real capability and dependable service matter.
That is why Chevrolet's 2027 Silverado lineup matters. It widens the entry points without cutting capability:
- Seven trims. Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, ZR2 and High Country, so you can pick the amount of truck you need.
- Big technology on every trim. The 16.3-inch center screen and 12.2-inch driver display are standard on all seven, including the Work Truck.
- The towing numbers. Chevrolet lists up to 13,700 lb of maximum trailering, ahead of the F-150's 13,500 lb.
- A diesel option. The Duramax 3.0L is available for long highway miles, and the F-150 does not offer one.
How do the engines and towing compare?
| 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 | 2027 Ford F-150 | |
|---|---|---|
| Base engine | Enhanced 2.7L TurboMax: 350 hp, 455 lb-ft | 3.0L EcoBoost V6: 325 hp, 400 lb-ft |
| Gas V8 | 5.7L: 402 hp, 428 lb-ft. 6.6L: 481 hp, 501 lb-ft | 5.0L: 400 hp, 410 lb-ft |
| Diesel | Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel: 305 hp, 495 lb-ft | Not offered |
| Max towing (properly equipped) | Up to 13,700 lb | Up to 13,500 lb (3.5L EcoBoost V6, 4x4) |
Chevrolet calls its 13,700 lb rating best in class and the 6.6L the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class, based on its own competitive data. Ford also offers a PowerBoost hybrid and high-output and Raptor engines that the Silverado does not. EPA ratings for the 2027 trucks are not yet available.
Ratings are the maximums Chevrolet and Ford have published for 2027 models. They vary by cab, drivetrain, axle and equipment. Compare the specific truck.
How do the technology and hands-free systems compare?
Every 2027 Silverado has a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch driver display. The ZR2 and High Country add an 11.5-inch passenger screen and a head-up display. The F-150 comes with a 12-inch SYNC 4 center screen as standard.

Each maker counts compatible roads differently. Super Cruise and BlueCruise work only on compatible roads and do not replace attentive driving.
What helps on Otero County roads?
- Desert and forest roads. Three factory-lifted trims, the Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss and ZR2, each have a 2-inch lift. The ZR2 adds exclusive 35-inch mud-terrain tires, front and rear electronic locking differentials and Multimatic dampers.
- Mountain grades and trailers. Chevrolet's 13,700 lb maximum trailering rating is for properly equipped trucks. The Max Trailering Package and Super Cruise with trailering are available.
- Long highway miles. Edmunds says the Duramax diesel gets the best fuel economy in the Silverado lineup. EPA ratings have not been published yet.
